Product Description
There is a group of runners that are running a marathon in Ouanaminthe Haiti on January 14. We are running to raise support for the education of the children in the city. All donations made will go to the childrens education fund. This is the second year we are doing the marathon. read below for what we were able to do last year. For a bit of history regarding the Ouanaminthe Marathon:
Runners and supporters raised nearly $18,000 in less than a year leading up to the Inaugural Ouanaminthe Marathon in 2011. The money raised was donated as follows
$1000 was given to the mayor specifically toward cleaning up the community.
$300 was used to take 40 children of the Sur Le Rocher orphanage on their first ever field trip to the ocean.
$200 was used for a community-wide “field day” open to all children in Ouanaminthe.
$300 was used for misc. marathon needs such as awards for Haitian runners, finisher’s medals, and water.
100% of the remaining funds were divided between two Haitian schools: College Sur Le Rocher - which offers tuition-free education to extremely underprivileged
children in Ouanaminthe through grade 6, & Institution Univers School – which is a low tuition school for students in pre-kindergarten through grade 13. •
Donations to each school were used to fund teacher salaries and food programs, and to purchase chalk boards, desks, & other necessities.
